I AM A DAUGHTER
Melissa Roberts is an Invictus Games Toronto 2017 competitor and a daughter. After a car accident changed her life forever, Melissa, with the help of her mother, Lesley, recovered from a traumatic brain injury to achieve a new goal of competing at Invictus Games Toronto 2017 in the athletics, swimming and indoor rowing events. This story is based on the power of family, how it’s helped with healing both physical and emotional wounds, and the realisation that two are stronger together.

Australia entrusted with Invictus Games Flag
During the closing ceremony of Invitcus Games Toronto 2017 the Canadian team captains returned the Invictus Games Flag to Invictus Games Foundation Trustee Dave Henson who passed it on to the Australian team captains to carry back to Australia the host of Invictus Games Sydney 2018.

Former Australian Army Medical Technician Stewart Sherman and Royal Australian Air Force Aeronautical Engineer, Squadron Leader Danny Jeffery, are among the team of 43 Australians in Toronto for the 2017 Invictus Games. United by sport, the two men are overcoming their mental injuries together, as mates.

Meet former Australian Army Sergeant Garry Robinson DSM - he’s a veteran, a survivor, a husband and a father. He’s also in training to compete at his third Invictus Games. With the support of his family Garry has overcome terrible mental and physical injuries sustained in a Black Hawk helicopter crash in Afghanistan and come out the other side.

Sapper Curtis McGrath OAM is an Australian Army Combat Engineer and Invictus Games competitor. He is currently training for the 2017 Invictus Games to be held in Toronto in late September. While on deployment, a bomb changed his life forever. His story is testament to the healing power of sport.

Founded by Prince Harry, the Invictus Games use the power of sport to inspire recovery, support rehabilitation and generate a wider understanding and respect for wounded, injured and sick servicemen and women and the families that play such an important supporting role. It is the only international adaptive sporting event for wounded, ill and injured active duty and veteran service members.
