The end of the Invictus Games marks the beginning of a legacy to ensure long-term support for our defence community. The focus will now be to establish and increase employment, education, sporting and rehabilitation opportunities for Australian veterans.

#IG2018 mascot, Cobber had a fabulous time

Cobber, the playful mascot for Invictus Games Sydney 2018, was everywhere during the Games. Meeting competitors at the airport, cheering them on in the stands, meeting the school children and entertaining the crowds. Cobber’s name means 'friend' and that suits him perfectly as he made so many new friends at #IG2018. He is an Australian Blue Heeler and a rescue dog.

Red Dust Heelers were on the court in Sydney

During Invictus Games Sydney 2018, members of the Outback Academy Australia played a demonstration wheelchair basketball game to start the Friday evening session of competition at #IG2018. The Heelers are Aboriginal and other Australians with a disability who believe in the healing powers of sport, friendship and community. They showcased what they can do and raised awareness of the need for Aboriginal Australians with a disability to have the same opportunities as all other Australians.

Here comes the bride and groom – again

There was plenty of love at Invictus Games Sydney 2018, there was even a wedding on the final day. Canadians Dean and Gailynne Irvine renewed their vows after Dean, due to his injuries and illness, was unable to remember their wedding from 19 years ago. It was a beautiful occasion in Invictus Games House.
